What Is IPL?

Now, a new kind of treatment called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is available to rejuvenate your skin appearance without damaging the sensitive outer layer of skin.

IPL therapy, also called Photo facial, use intense pulse of broadband light to smooth and remove age spot, freckles, sun damage and visible blood vessels. The Pulse light used in IPL is delivered to the deeper part of the skin (the dermis) and does not damage the surface (the epidermis) of the skin.

What areas can be treated?

IPL is ideal for any part of your face, neck. hands, arms, legs and décolleté with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spot.

What do treatments feel like?

When the pulse light is delivered, patients will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Gel is recommended to cool the skin before vascular treatments.

Anesthesia or pain medicine is typically not required.

How many treatments will I need?

One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatment may be recommended, especially for excessively sun-damaged skin.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or longer. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness.

When will I see results?

Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia (tiny veins) will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve.

How does Laser Genesis™ work?

By gently heating upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, Laser Genesis™ stimulates collagen regrowth. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.

What is diffuse redness?

Diffuse redness is a general appearance of facial redness, such as rosy cheeks. This condition is caused by dilated capillaries, resulting in an appearance of general redness, not discrete, well-defined vessels. The most commonly affected areas are the nose, forehead and cheeks. How does the procedure feel like?

Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure as the laser headpiece is moved back and forth about ½ inch above your skin. You can immediately return to normal activities, utilizing sunscreen if participating in outdoor activities.

How many treatments will I need?

What kind of textural improvement can you expect with laser Genesis skin therapy?

What type of veins can be treated?

The CoolGlide™ can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Small, facial veins can be treated quickly without bruising or complication. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotty Varicose veins are not good candidates. A careful evaluation with your Medi Spa Staff will help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient. However the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color and size of the vessels being treated. Since individual results vary, ask your medical professional about your specific condition.

Do the treatments hurt?

Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand piece. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, many patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following the treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.

What happens after the treatment?

Following your treatment, some redness or bruising may occur. When larger veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment. Patients who have leg vein treatments may be advised to wear support hose for a short period of time.

When will I see results?

Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, it is possible for few new veins to appear, but these too can be removed with the CoolGlide™.
